Breaking News: Ceasefire Announced in Gaza

Since October 2023, Israel has carried out daily massacres, war crimes, ethnic cleansing, and starvation against Palestinian civilians in Gaza. We have witnessed unimaginable death and destruction that has left the Gaza Strip in ruins, killing over 65,000 Palestinians - including 18,000 children, injuring 167,000 more, and forcibly displacing 1.9 million people.

Two years later, on October 8, 2025, the first phase of a ceasefire deal has been agreed on.

This is a significant but long overdue step. Now, the real test lies in what happens next.

There can be no sustainable peace without justice and accountability, without a permanent end to Israel’s attacks, displacement, and starvation. World leaders must ensure all restrictions on humanitarian access are immediately lifted so that life-saving aid can reach people in Gaza.

Frequently Asked Questions

Islamic Relief is ready to scale up efforts immediately once humanitarian access points and travel routes have been granted.

Here’s what we’re ready to do️:

  • Continue emergency relief, distributing food, water, and other vital aid
  • Provide transitional shelters and basic household support for families
  • Support children’s education with school supplies and kits
  • Provide medical supplies and basic healthcare support
  • Clear up rubble and begin rehabilitating and repairing homes, medical facilities, schools, etc.

May this be the beginning of Gaza’s rebuilding, with the help of our community here at home.

Islamic Relief has been on the ground, operating in Palestine since 1997. Our staff in Gaza are using your donations to procure food, hygiene supplies, bedding, and any other essential item we can source locally or through private trading routes.

We have implemented thorough risk assessments, established communication with stakeholders, and devised contingency plans to address unexpected issues promptly.

Working alongside local partners and the World Food Program, we are presently active in the Middle Area including Deir Al Balah, Zawayda, and Al Nusairat, as well as Khan Younis, Rafah, Gaza City, and North Gaza (Beit Hanoun, Beit Lahya, and Jabaliya).

With the ceasefire deal now in effect, we anticipate the opening of access points and are on standby to resume full-scale effort of our humanitarian work in Gaza.

In the past month alone, our team was able to provide life-saving essentials to camps and maternal care for pregnant women:

  • Freshly cooked lentil soup, pasta, rice, and potatoes over 5,000 people
  • 6,000 litres of clean, drinking water to 450 people
  • Psychosocial support to 150 children
  • Medical checkups to 1,300 pregnant women

With partners Union of Medical Care & Relief Organizations and Campaign for Children of Palestine Japan, we have also launched two new projects in Gaza:

  • Cash transfers via e-wallets to individuals in Gaza
  • Cataract removal surgery for individuals in Gaza, where local surgeons, nurses, and medical staff will be engaged and trained throughout the process

Your Zakat can help deliver life-saving essentials to communities reeling from two years of famine and genocide. A ceasefire may have come into effect, but the need on the ground is still at an all-time high, and entire communities require life-saving food, water, and medical care.

At Islamic Relief Canada, we follow a scholar-verified Zakat Policy to ensure your Zakat reaches as many vulnerable people as possible to transform their lives.

  • $120 can deliver hot meals to 12 displaced people in Gaza
  • $220 can provide maternal health services for a pregnant woman
  • $575 can provide 2 trucks of water to reach 700 families

Every dollar you give means we can reach more civilian children, women and the elderly who continue to face hunger, poverty, trauma and loss.

Islamic Relief has been working in Palestine since 1997. Our work in Gaza is focused on both emergency relief and development support, ensuring sustainable long-term programs that are transformative for the communities involved.

Demand Humanitarian Access to Gaza and Accountability for Genocide.

This “ceasefire” must be a turning point — not a timeout.

After two years of relentless bombardment, forced displacement, siege, famine, and genocide, a ceasefire in Gaza has been announced. It offers a rare and long-overdue moment of relief - but without concrete action, the cycle of violence will only continue

Canada has a duty to uphold international humanitarian law and must not turn its back on vulnerable civilians. Canada must do everything within its power to:

  • Ensure permanent and unimpeded humanitarian access
  • Uphold international law
  • Support international justice and accountability mechanisms
  • Take concrete steps to stop the genocide in Gaza

Send an email to your local representative and demand the Government of Canada enforce sanctions and support international law, as well as ensure unhindered humanitarian access to Gaza.

Take action with us NOW.
